Freedom Convoy Bail Hearings
March 10, 2022The Ottawa courthouse has never hosted a session as widely attended as the recent bail hearings for the accused leaders of the “Freedom Convoy”. LMS Lawyers partner and senior director with the Defence Counsel Association of Ottawa Paolo Giancaterino spoke with Aden Helmer from the Ottawa Citizen about how the convoy-related bail hearinga have tested the courts' capacity. It’s no secret that the use of technology has been on the rise in Canadian establishments, including the courts. While the benefits of these developments are well documented, there are also many risks associated with them, particularly in regard to the broader public’s access. Giancaterino discussed how there is concern that the decorum of the court could not be respected and that he believes that recent events do not show the court's 'norm'.
